Type / Category / Details Hierarchy

Engagio aggregates together data for many different types of sales and marketing activities.

For the purposes of reporting using a common language, we apply a 3-level categorization system to all activities.

  1. Activity Type
  2. Category
  3. Details

The Activity Type represents the format or medium of engagement: email, program success, web page visit, etc.
Activity types are built-in and predefined by Engagio.

The Category represents a logical grouping of activities from a particular type.
The meaning of "Category" is different for different activity types - for example, for Salesforce Campaigns, the Category is the Campaign Type.
Some activity types have no natural sub-grouping, in which case the Category will be the same as the activity type - for example, for Email Opens, the Category is always "Email Open".

The Details represents the most specific name or description of the asset or content that the person engaged with. The meaning is different for different activity types - for example, for an email message, it's the Subject line.

Engagio-Determined Groupings

For certain activity types, Engagio software automatically scans through each customers' data to identify a set of sensible groupings for those activity types, based on the customer's own data.

This applies to Marketo Interesting Moments and for customers joining Engagio before July 2017, Salesforce Activities (Tasks and Events).

For both Interesting Moments and Activities, it is common to have software-generated descriptive labels that follow a standard formulaic pattern, with a small set of common prefixes. Engagio extracts these prefixes and uses them as groupings. For example, a company using PersistIQ will have a large number of Tasks where the subject line begins "[PersistIQ - Manual email]". Engagio will identify a grouping named "[PersistIQ - Manual email]" to make it easier to assign engagement minutes to all PersistIQ manual emails in a consistent way.
